While these crutches are mostly made of wood, the part that goes under your arms is made of plastic with the rubber covering over the top. I wish I had known that ahead of time and I wouldn't have bought them. I wanted all wood, not part wood. The top is the the part that hits first when your crutches accidentally fall, which for most people is quite often. If I pay $40+ dollars for wood crutches, I don't want a plastic piece on the top that will be the first to break. Obviously, this ploy is to make money off of a formerly very durable, if not life-lasting, product. I just want to warn everyone that they are not ALL wood like the ones most people are familiar with.
