After reading up on the benefits of dairy from grass-fed cattle, I started researching on-line for a good quality whey-based protein for my smoothies. I was tired of chocolate and vanilla, and knew peanut butter could be a good source of protein but wanted to cut back on the fat and calories that can be in peanut butter, so a requirement was a variety of flavors (peanut butter gets bonus points). Also being a reader of Mercola.com, I knew about this stuff but really hesitated purchasing this product for a long time. I finally decided to give it a go. When received, I noticed the container was quite small, and required 2 scoops instead of a single scoop to get the nutrition as listed on the back. Additionally, it's not quite as high-protein as I would like. Finally, it has as many carbs as protein, while I was looking for a higher protein-to-carb ratio to increase the protein in my already carb-heavy smoothies.
I also expected to get a nice jolt of peanut butter flavor running through my smoothies, but my smoothies ended up tasting only mildly of peanut butter, despite the ratio of produce to powder I tried to use.
The powder does mix very well, and can be mixed in a cup shaker easily. It's also tolerable with water but tastes rather bland (much better with a milky product such as almond, rice, soy or cow's milk).
For the price I paid and the amount I received, I have a hard time justifying the cost for the amount of protein I get. This was gone in a very short time, and I had to supplement with other sources of protein to up the protein ratio in my daily diet.
I've since switched to an excellent-tasting, somewhat more affordable vegan protein, which I can't recommend enough: Lifetime Life's Basics Plant Protein, Vanilla, 18.6-Ounces Tub. Compare for yourself the difference in protein grams, sugars, sodium and ingredients.
