Honestly, everyone should read Dr. Holick's "Vitamin D Solution" book. If have read it (and even you don't want to read the entire thing, just read the synopsis somewhere on line), it is truly one of the most important health books available that is written for laymen. Dr. Holick is board certified MD/PhD (professor at Boston University Medical Center) who has pretty much spent his entire life researching the bioactive form of Vitamin D. I was distressed when I read that most Americans are deficient in Vitamin D and if you read the whole host of health problems that are associated with Vitamin D deficiency (cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, chronic fatigue, among others), although Vitamin D deficiency may not be the single most important underlying factor, it is certainly up there. Do yourself a favor and ask your MD to check your Vitamin D levels and if you are deficient, make sure to start supplementing at a level your physician thinks is reasonable. If your physician hasn't read Dr. Holick's book or isn't interested in becoming familiar with it, it is in your best interest to find a physician who understands the profound implications of this vitamin/hormone. I have spent most of my adult life reading medical papers/abstracts, Dr. Holick's work is absolutely groundbreaking and so incredibly important. If you don't understand the science behind it, find someone who can explain it to you...

I rotate among several Vitamin D3 formulas, and Jarrows is one of my preferred brands. Since increasing my Vitamin D (I too was deficient! I won't mention how much I am taking, as the amount you should take is dependent upon many factors such as your exposure to sunlight, your weight, your vitamin d intake from food, your age, ethnicity, etc.), I have experienced much less muscle fatigue/soreness after working out. Lamy Accent Palladium Finish with Blue Grip Rollerball Pen - L395-AB Review

I ordered the Lamy Safari Charcoal Extra Fine Point Fountain Pen - L17EF way back in early 2011 and thought it was nice to use for a while. However, after extended use, I didn't think it was for constant use for several reasons, and some of those may have been because it was a fountain pen.

So in the search of a better writing utensil, I knew Lamy at least had a good idea on build quality. The Safari was at least well-designed enough to get me interested in more of their writing tools. I ordered this pen after seeing it on Lamy's website, but I got it on Amazon for better price and service. I know I did spend more on it than the Safari, but now that I have it, it really exceeded my expectations.

The finish is a smooth, non-glossy metal exterior on the silver barrel and the blue grip. It feels very nice when you write with it. The barrel feels really sturdy and it's not a fingerprint magnet like a glossy-finish pen would be. Non-glossy is the best way I can describe it because it's not a fingerprint magnet yet it doesn't really feel like it has a true matte finish of some kind.

The clip is a bit mirror-like on the surface of it, and that does attract some fingerprints, but it's not really a problem because of how easily it can be wiped. Speaking of the clip, I noticed you can easily press the top part to clip it more easily. That's pretty useful.

The cap twists off instead of simply being pulled off, but to put it on the end of the pen so you can write, you just pop it on and it stays. There's nubs around the narrow end of the pen that I suspect support the cap more readily while you're writing.

When you finish writing, you can just pull the cap off and twist it back onto the tip. In other words, you don't push it back on. It's not really immediately obvious when you get the pen the first time either; I tried to pull the cap off the first time (though not with a lot of force; this is a writing instrument) until I realized it twists off. There is no indication to tell you to twist it off, either, so it's just something you need to be aware of when you first get it.

Ink quality is quite nice. I really like rollerball a lot because of how nice it feels and low-maintenance it is compared to ballpoint or fountain respectively. The ink in the pen is black, so no surprises there. Since the Lamy Safari I ordered a few years ago came with blue ink, I was expecting some color other than black when I first got this one, but I'm happy to say it comes with black, which I prefer over blue ink.

Writing with it is effortless, but it's worth noting that the blue part of the barrel is a bit thicker than the rest of the pen because you grip it in that area to write with, but that doesn't mean it's soft. I was expecting some kind of softer material or surface when I ordered this, judging by the picture alone and how it was thicker. However, I think it's the same metal material used in the rest of the barrel of the pen, except it has a blue finish. I still like the blue hue on it; it's a nice, full shade of blue, but not too dark or too light.

Like any Lamy pen (I assume), this one is refillable. Twisting it open is easy because you twist the top half of the barrel in the opposite direction of the blue part to expose the refill inside. I haven't had to actually change the refill yet, so I'll probably update when the time comes.

So if you're looking for a permanent carry-everywhere pen to use that is lower maintenance than a fountain pen, sophisticated without a higher price, and just easy to write with, then this particular pen might be a great fit for you. I know it is for me.
