The safety feature of this heating pad is that you must hold the lever for it to stay on. it gets uncomfortably hot, but is very easily controlled by the lever. It is operated by electricity and has a moderate length cord. Helpful diagrams are provided that show how to arrange the heating pad where you want. I am not crazy about velcro but it is a convenient way to fasten the cover into position. I had a prescription for this heating pad for TMJ. it is comforting when feeling chilly in cold weather.
