Product Description
The PSB Thumb Brace supports the thumb when the thumb joint has become unstable as a result of straining of the joint ligament. The strap in the brace as it were compensates for the additional movement brought about by the damaged ligament. The brace offers joint protection, also against impact. The undamaged joints remain free and the straps can be adjusted in such a way that the thumb can function normally. The brace leaves the wrist entirely free and in no way restricts the wrist movement. The brace is perfectly suited for wearing during sport. Another advantage: the PSB Thumb Brace offers exceptional comfort and is easy for the wearer to apply.IndicationThe PSB Thumb Brace is used for the so-called skier's thumb: residual instability (free movement) as a result of an injury to the inside of the thumb joint. The brace has specifically been developed for the joint at the base of the thumb, also known as MCP 1.SizingThe PSB Thumb Brace is available for both left and right thumb. For the correct size, measure around the middle hand, below the lower finger knuckles.Applying the braceStep 1Ensure that the two straps are loose. Insert the thumb through the opening at the cap, and insert the little finger through the loop intended for that finger. Close the brace on the back of the hand. Pull the strap that runs over the palm of the hand tight and attach it to the Velcro strip at the little finger side.Step 2Pull the strap that runs over the back of the hand tight, and attach it to the Velcro strip at the little finger side. Adjust the two straps so that the thumb is well supported, but you maintain the required degree of freedom of movement.PSB Thumb Brace - Left S Review
I needed something to support my thumb post recovery from a UCL break and surgery that would prevent outward twisting / stretching of my thumb while healing and trying to regain grip strength until my joint could support itself. This was the ONLY one I could find after hours and hours of hunting online and talking to the reps at the local sports injury supply stores in town. Comfortable, worked great, hand lots of exposed palm for increasing grip and contact with the handlebar (hoods / top bar). Didn't try my drops until recovered past the need for support. Essentially imposed a limit on the range of motion, instead of preventing outward motion of the thumb all together, I could limit the max range of that motion, and change that limit as I recovered and regained confidence in the joint. I didn't use it exactly as designed, I found I could get better control not using the strap guide under the palm, especially in the early stages when I wanted tighter / more restrictive joint control. Seemed to be ok going through the wash too, which was a huge plus (using it for sports). Most of the consumer Reviews tell that the "PSB Thumb Brace - Left S" are high quality item.
